To improve the quality of life in the Capital, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to take up a series of projects to enable quick and hassle-free travel besides providing public spaces for recreation, a statement from the Urban Development Ministry said.
The initiatives include construction of elevated or new roads, upgradation and extension of existing corridors and providing seamless connectivity with other NCR cities without passing through inner areas of Delhi, the statement added.
Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu in a meeting with DDA officials on Wednesday firmed up plans for decongestion of the Capital.
The aim of the project would be decongesting five critical roads viz., Urban Extension Road-II connecting North Delhi with the airport/ Gurgaon without requiring to pass through congested areas of Central and South Delhi such as Connaught Place and Rao Tularam Marg.
The other critical roads include the extension of Chattarpur and Mandi Road to improve connectivity to Gurgaon, extension of Barapullah Phase-III from East Delhi to the airport, Dwarka Expressway and new connections from Noida and Faridabad.
For this, the Minister has asked DDA to engage a consultant of international repute to prepare feasibility reports.
For seamless travel, DDA will also develop five world-class integrated passenger terminals in the form of Transit Hubs at Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, Dwarka Sector-21, Tikri Kalan and Kashmir Gate.
This would provide integration between different modes including airports, railway stations, local metro stations and buses, with feeder services.
Apart from this, the authority will promote the country’s first cycle-sharing system at Dwarka sub-city, which will cover 65 sq. km with 300 cycle stations with modern smart-card based interface, computerised docking facilities and women-friendly cycles.
