Tamil Nadu is one among the highest digital-enabled State as far as digital transactions are concerned, observed Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State, Independent Charge, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
In a brief discussion with presspersons, the minister said that post December 8 (a month after withdrawal of the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 from circulation), the digital transaction volume in the state was just around 5 per cent.
“But this has shot up to 28 per cent at present and is among the highest. It is a welcome move,” he added.
The Government is focussing on a cashless economy and in the first phase, identified 50 cities across the country, where payments could be digitised in toto. The list includes four cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy and Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
“In all these cities, 100 per cent digital transaction is available,” he added.
The minister was in the city to inaugurate the Pearl Jubilee National Convention and Exhibition of the All India LPG Distributors Federation
