Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today disapproved of his party colleague Mani Shankar Aiyar’s controversial remark on the humble origins of BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.
Last week, Aiyar had mocked Modi’s prime ministerial ambitions and said a place would be identified for him to sell tea at AICC meeting. Modi has often referred to his humble background as a tea vendor at railway station at many rallies.
In a country where people from humble background have risen to occupy top posts like that of the President, it was not right on the part of Aiyar to make such a comment, Digvijay told reporters at his residence here.
“India happens to be a democracy, where every common man can aspire to reach the highest post in the country,” Singh said.
