As discontent gripped VCK cadres over the apportioning of just one seat to the party for the April 24 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu in the DPA, DMK heading the front today allotted one more constituency to the Dalit-based outfit.
DMK President M Karunanidhi and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalvan clinched the deal under which the latter was allotted Tiruvallore (SC) constituency, a DMK release said.
VCK was earlier allotted Chidambaram (SC) seat, represented in the current Lok Sabha by Thirumavalavan himself.
The party cadre were dissatisfied over their party being given only one seat and one supporter had even allegedly tried self-immolation two days ago, which was criticised by Karunanidhi.
DMK has allotted one seat each to other DPA partners IUML, MMK and Puthiya Tamizhagam.
Karunanidhi told reporters that the additional seat was allotted to VCK since it “insisted” that the earlier allotment of one constituency was not “enough.” He also declined to comment on the DMDK starting seat-sharing talks with the BJP when pointed out that he had initially favoured an alliance with the Vijayakanth-led party.
