Job reservation in the private sector, waiver of education and farm loans, setting up a second rocket launch pad in Tirunelveli in southern Tamil Nadu, and free education to SCs and STs, are some of the promises made by the DMK in its election manifesto released today.
The employment opportunities provided in public sector units is just 1 per cent, which is very low. Hence, in view of the PSUs being gradually privatised, reservation should be made compulsory in private sector too, the manifesto said.
It also said the party will insist that public sector units in Tamil Nadu such as Hindustan Photo Films and IDPL should not be closed or privatised, and necessary investment and technological know-how be brought in to run those units.
As Puducherry has for long been a Union Territory, the party will continue to press for its demand for according full statehood, says the party manifesto. On the retail front, DMK expressed its opposition to FDI and it said it would strive for its total prohibition.
If elected, the party will also press for taking necessary steps for developing the Kolachal port as an international port with modern facilities, the manifesto says.
