About 49.50 lakh basic accounts have been opened by banks in Andhra Pradesh as part of Pradhan Manthri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme covering 99.7 per cent of households in the State.
Out of these, 28.32 lakh accounts pertained to the rural areas while the remaining were in semi-urban and rural areas, according D Durga Prasad, General Manager of Andhra Bank and convenor of the state-level bankers’ committee.
“As result of the efforts put in by banks, 99.70 per cent out of 1,18,55,000 households in Andhra Pradesh are presently having at least one basic bank account each,’’ he said in a statement adding that 74 per cent of these accounts were linked with Aadhar numbers.
The scheme was launched on August 28, 2014 by the Government of India as part of a national mission on financial inclusion.
