Even as other opposition parties gathered to frame a common strategy around their concerns over alleged tampering of EVMs, AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went a step further on Monday, accusing the Election Commission of “acting like Dhritarashtra” to “help son Duryodhana (BJP)” win successive elections.

A visibly agitated Kejriwal alleged that the EC’s only intention was to bring the BJP to power in poll-bound States and that is why it is not paying heed to his request to investigate defective EVMs. The accusation comes a day after media reports stated that a few machines, used during the by-poll in Rajasthan’s Dholpur, may have been “tampered with”.

Accusing the EC of “overlooking” complaints of alleged EVM manipulation, Kejriwal said: “As Dhritarashtra used to help his son Duryodhana grab power, the Election Commission is helping the BJP in getting power by using all means possible (through s aam daam dand bhed ).”

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that both the EC and the BJP are “toying with democracy”. “Stop conducting elections when EVMs can be manipulated. What is the meaning of elections then?” he asked.

The EC is not ready to investigate faulty EVMs, which “raises serious doubts”. He claimed that “malfunctioning EVMs are being brought from Rajasthan to conduct the MCD polls”.
