Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first PIO Parliamentarian Conference in New Delhi. Over 140 MPs and mayors of Indian-origin from 23 nations will converge in the capital as part of the conference that will aim to boost ties with these countries by leveraging the diaspora links.

North and South Korea will hold talks today for the first time in over two years. On Friday, Pyongyang accepted Seoul's offer for dialogue, just hours after the United States and South Korea delayed a joint military exercise. The talks will be held at the border truce village of Panmunjom and officials from both sides are expected to discuss the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the improvement of inter-Korean relations. The last time the two Koreas engaged in official talks was in December 2015.

The Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah is likely to chair a meeting of the Karnataka core committee. Shah was in Bengaluru just over the New Year weekend to finetune the party's strategy for the upcoming elections. The BJP is aiming to dislodge the Congress from Karnataka. The 224-seat assembly is likely to go to polls in May.

The first session of the newly elected Himachal Pradesh Assembly session will start, with Protem Speaker Ramesh Dhawala administering oath to the elected members. There are 22 first-time MLAs in the house. The election for the post of speaker and deputy speaker will be held on Jan 10, for which the BJP has named Rajiv Bindal and Hans Raj.
