Parliament will resume work after a long weekend. The Triple Talaq Bill is likely to come up in Rajya Sabha today. The bill makes instant triple talaq or ‘talaq-e-biddat’ illegal and provides for a jail term of up to three years for the husband. The offence has been made cognizable and non-bailable. The Lok Sabha passed the Bill last week.

Doctors across the country will hold nation-wide protests, starting today. The Indian Medical Association has called for a 12-hour strike to protest the National Medical Commission Bill. They say the Bill is against poor patients and will only increase corruption.

The Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir legislature is set to open today on a stormy note with opposition parties planning to protest the recent government order barring its employees from airing political views on social media and take up other issues.

Andhra Pradesh will organise the fifth round of ‘Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru’ programme from today. The feedback on the Government’s welfare and developmental schemes obtained from the villages will be collected by the Real Time Governance Centre.

Table toppers East Bengal will face debutants Indian Arrows in a Hero I-League match in New Delhi today. Like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal is a giant in Indian football and they currently lead the table with 14 points. The Arrows, on the other hand, are lying at the seventh spot with seven points from six matches.
