Gujarat Congress MLAs will elect their Legislature Party leader today. Patidar MLA Paresh Dhanani has emerged the front-runner in the race. Being the largest opposition party, the new CLP leader would by default become the Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly. The Congress won 77 seats, 22 less than the BJP in the keenly contested polls.

The Madras HC is likely to hear disqualified MLA P Vetrivel’s anticipatory bail plea today. The bail plea relates to the case booked against him for having released a video footage of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa on December 20.

The Election Commission is likely to issue a notification for the bypolls to three Lok Sabha seats, in Rajasthan and West Bengal. The seats fell vacant following the demise of sitting members.
