Officials from Fuji Electric of Japan on Friday met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and said they would be setting up a Smart Grid in Vijayawada on a pilot basis.
Feasibility study This visit and assurance follows the Chief Minister’s visit to Japan in November.
As part of the cooperation between the Japanese and Andhra Pradesh governments, Fuji Electric has conducted a feasibility study for a smart grid project and will submit the report soon.
A smart grid allows one to share energy with other grids. Stating that their smart grid technology can support the new capital, Fuji Electric officials informed that the smart grid monitors the consumption of energy and forecasts the demand for the next 24 hours to make energy management efficient.
Energy sensors In gated communities, sensors can be installed on buildings which will forecast the energy requirement and give insights into energy consumption patterns.
The Chief Minister also asked the delegates to install smart meters and suggest technologies which will bring down the transmission and commercial loss from the current 12.9 per cent to 6 per cent.
Green tech Mentioning about Fuji Electric’s Kitakyushu as Japan’s first eco-town project, the Chief Minister wanted them to identify the possibilities of collaboration in energy-related technology areas such as renewable energy.
Fuji Electric officials informed the Chief Minister that they would be visiting Andhra Pradesh again with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) officials in March.
