Gangavaram Port Ltd on Monday inaugurated a drive of planting 20,000 saplings near Yarada Hills.
The project is a part of “Green Visakha Programme” under which the Government plans to have 40 lakh saplings planted in Visakhapatnam within the next five years.
Mr Ch.Venkata Ramayya, Gajuwaka MLA, along with Mr Lav Agarwal, District Collector, and Mr B. Ramanjaneyulu, Municipal Commissioner, participated in the function.
The event saw participation from school children, according to a press release. The GPL staff planted a wide variety of avenue plants. Under the green belt development programme, GPL plans to plant 80,000 saplings in the port premises and neighbourhood area during this year.
The port maintains a dedicated nursery with 1, 50,000 sapling of avenue, ornamental and fruit plants to create environmental sustainability in and around the port, adds the release.
