The year ahead may be a better one for the auto industry in general and General Motors India Ltd in particular, according to GM India Managing Director Lowell Paddock.
He was speaking to reporters here on Monday evening after opening a new dealership, Orange Auto Pvt. Ltd, to sell Chevrolet cars. With the opening of the showroom, GM India now has 19 sales points and 19 service outlets in the State and 285 sales points and 278 service outlets in the country.
New partner
He said the company was pleased to add “Orange Auto as our new partner in Visakhapatnam to support the customer base of Chevrolet cars. The dealership will be headed by Ramu Yelamanchili. We are sure it will be a great success.”
He said last year was not a good one for the auto sector in the country for various reasons and 92,000 cars could be sold.
“But we are launching new models this year. Already we have 8,000 bookings for Sail sedan and we are off to a good start.
"We are launching another model - Enjoy - in May and later another one. All the models and variants will be available in Visakhapatnam,” he said and added that the company was hoping for a substantial share in sales growth this year.
To a question whether the company would venture into light commercial vehicle segment, he said it was not on the agenda at the moment.
The dealer, Ramu, said the prices of cars would range from Rs 3.5-25 lakh and he expected a very good response from the local public.
