Two spires of the 18th century Kashi Vishwanath temple here will soon be plated with gold replacing the enamel paint on the temple structures.
Authorities in a meeting yesterday decided that gold donated to the temple would be used for plating the spires, said Navneet Sehgal, Secretary of Department of Religious Affairs, Uttar Pradesh.
Commissioner of Varanasi Division Chanchal Kumar, who chaired the meeting, said two members of the temple management committee would be appointed to oversee the work including the removal of enamel paint from the structure.
Kumar said the enamel paint was corroding several structures of the temple.
