Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs authorities seized 17.5 kg of smuggled gold at the Kozhikode airport on Thursday. The gold ingots and coins, valued at roughly ₹5 crore, were concealed inside voltage stabilizers and LED lamps which had arrived from Dubai as air cargo a week before. The DRI officials, on a tip off, intercepted the cargo and on Thursday arrested two young men while they were trying to get the cargo cleared. This was one of the largest gold seizures at the Kozhikode airport, which is a main gateway to the Gulf from India.
