The Union Government along with the Delhi Government will come out with guidelines in a week to improve the living conditions of residents of Delhi’s JJ clusters, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said.
All 685 such clusters will be taken up for redevelopment in the next five years, Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu, said, adding that Delhi needs to be made slum-free to enable seamless urban development.
Naidu on Tuesday convened a meeting with the Secretaries of the Ministries of Urban Development and Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Vice-Chairman of DDA, Principal Secretary (UD), Government of Delhi, Chief Executive of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, among others.
The redevelopment of the clusters could be considered based on the models followed in Gujarat, Mumbai and Chennai as appropriate and cut-off date of June 1, 2014 will be considered for identifying the beneficiaries in JJ clusters, the statement added.
According to the 2011 census, out of the 1.64 crore population in Delhi, 18 lakh live in slums.
