The Haryana government has enhanced the ex-gratia grant for family members of police personnel who die in the line of duty from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.

Now, a widow or dependent of a policeman who dies fighting anti-social elements or while saving public life and property during natural calamities will be given Rs 20 lakh, Director General of Police B S Sandhu said in a statement.

The mother and the father of the policeman will be given Rs five lakh each, he added.

In case the parents are not alive, then their share will be given to the widow or dependents of the deceased, Sandhu added.

Similarly, the DGP said, financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh would be given to police personnel terminally injured in the line of duty, Rs 10 lakh for a major injury and Rs five lakh for minor injuries.

The Haryana Police has signed an agreement with the HDFC Bank to provide the ex-gratia amount, Sandhu said.

According to the agreement, Rs 2 lakh will be paid to a policeman’s family in case of a natural death and Rs 30 lakh in case of an accidental death.
