With a view to increasing the trained manpower in Haryana so as to meet the target of 17 lakh persons during 2012-17, a number of steps have been initiated by the Department of Industrial Training, an official said today.

The State’s Industrial Training Minister Geeta Bhukkal said under a plan to set up Multi Skill Development Centres (MSDCs), a process has been initiated to invite expressions of interest for selection of a consultant or implementation agency.

“Identification of location for the establishment of these centres is also under consideration with the Government,” she said.

She said under the Kaushal Vikas Yojna Scheme of the Central Government, the case for setting up 11 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 96 Skill Development Centres (SDCs) in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in an unserviced block has been submitted to the Centre for consideration.

The Minister said to make the training relevant and accountable to users, 65 Government ITIs have been adopted by 29 industries, including the major industries such as Maruti Suzuki (I) Ltd, Jindal Stainless Steel Ltd and Reliance (I) Ltd for upgradation through public-private partnership.

To bridge the skill gap, the dual system of training has been adopted for hospitality related courses under which theoretical training is being provided in the ITIs and practical training in the industry or the establishment, she said.

“The Department of Industrial Training, Haryana, is imparting skill-based training to unemployed youth through the network of 131 Government industrial training institutes, including 31 Government ITIs for women, and 94 private ITIs under the Craftsman Training Scheme. Courses of a duration of one year, two years and three years are being run in these institutes,” she said.

Bhukkal said the number of Government ITIs has been increased from 78 in 2005-06 to 131 in 2012-13.
