The central revenue department officials have raised vigil to check any flow of black money from air and land transit points ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections here.
Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs have intensified their vigil at the airport here to ensure illegal movement of money, official sources said.
Besides, the Income-Tax Department has also activated its air intelligence unit at the airport here to keep track of any cash movement in and out of the national capital, they said.
Assembly election in Delhi’s 70 constituencies is scheduled to be held on February 7. Counting of votes will take place on February 10.
Officials suspect increase in flow of black money during the Assembly polls. “All measures are being taken to check misuse of money,” a source said.
Besides, the central and state excise officials have also raised their surveillance to check illegal transportation of liquor also.
“All field officials have been alerted about the possibility of increase in movement of liquor to Delhi from neighbouring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,” the source said.
The I-T Department has also set up a toll-free control room for the general public to alert it about any suspicious movement of “large sum of cash” in the national capital.
The toll-free number — 1800110132 — will be monitored round-the-clock, a senior IT official said.
Complaints or information regarding movement of large sum of cash and other items suspected to be used for bribing voters during elections will be monitored from the Centre, he said.
The EC has created an Election Expenditure Monitoring cell to monitor illegal money and other such bribes to voters during polls, few years ago.
