The city has witnessed a drop in hiring level during the current second half as compared to the first half of the year, a report by contract staffing firm TeamLease said.

Releasing the report here today, senior VP and co-founder of TeamLease Sangeeta Lala said that there has been a four to five per cent drop in the hiring level in Kolkata during the second half.

She said the trend is likely to continue during the coming two quarters, after which things would be better.

The major sectors which would drive the employment market in West Bengal were infrastructure, financial services, retail and FMCG.

Other sectors like pharma and health care would not be a big contributing factor in the hiring scenario of the state, she said.

The city accounted for almost 20 per cent of the company’s total client base across the country.
