Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will commission the Hyderabad metro rail project on Tuesday, November 28, is set to unveil a metro plaza, which captures the spirit of Hyderabad and its heritage.
The unique features of the Hyderabad Metro and a comparison of the two iconic Railways -- the Nizam State Railway and the Hyderabad Metro -- with significant impact on the history of Hyderabad are etched on the stainless steel arch panels.
This is likely to become a selfie point. The inaugural plaza located next to the entrance of Miyapur station, is part of a vast landscaped green area. It has been developed by Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) near Miyapur station.
The three arches, which come out of a water pond, reflect the three Metro Rail corridors and each arch is designed as a rail track which vanishes into infinity, signifying the future expansion of the Metro Rail system.
This arch form is taken to signify Hyderabad’s built heritage, including the Charminar and other monuments, but with a contemporary interpretation. Made out of steel, it expresses a ‘floating’ design, the whole structure is designed on an elliptical granite podium, with the oval shape signifying the closed loop system of Metro, according to NVS Reddy, MD, HMRL.
The inaugural plaque is placed in the middle of the pond.
Architect Shankar Narayan designed the inaugural plaza and other facilities at Miyapur.
The verdant landscape and lawn on both sides of the plaza will further elevate the ambience of the metro and will become another hotspot for people to congregate and relax, Reddy said.
