The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been directed by the Andhra Pradesh Government to expedite all pending land acquisition issues within the next 45 days to facilitate the implementation of the L&T Hyderabad metro rail project without any hurdles.

Apart from providing the right of way for development of the metro project, the land acquisition would provide the necessary space required for the project in busy, congested corridors with less space for movement.

A decision to this effect was taken by the State Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma during a Special Task Force meeting where the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail project was reviewed with various departments involved in the project facilitation.

During the meeting, N.V.S. Reddy, MD, Hyderabad metro rail in his presentation said so far 1700 foundations (44 km), 1600 pillars (42 km) and 1290 viaduct spans (33 km) were completed and that the project is progressing at a brisk pace.

The two depots have been almost made ready and 18 trains have been received. Various test runs for all the trains are successfully going on between Nagole and Mettuguda, a stretch of 8 km, where metro is likely to be operational by March 2015.

GHMC is heading a committee to sort out the issue of payment of compensation to the private property owners over the affected properties.

To minimise the acquisition of private properties, metro stations have been classified into three categories with spans ranging from 200 feet, 150 ft and 100 ft in tune with the city’s master plan. Road engineering plans have been initiated at several locations as pilot projects. This includes bus and auto bays, private parking, junction improvement plans, landing position of skywalks.
