The daughter of Rupesh, the Kerala CPI (Maoist) leader who was arrested along with his wife Shyna and three comrades on Monday by the Tamil Nadu police, has said she is proud of her parents.

Amy, the teenaged daughter of the couple, told media persons in Thrissur on Tuesday that her parents had sincerely worked for the welfare of the poor and had strong conviction of their ideology. The police were fabricating stories of violence to trap her parents, she alleged.

Law graduate and writer Rupesh, who the police say is the leader of the Maoist party in Kerala, was arrested at a village 30 km from Coimbatore. Kerala police, which says there are two dozen criminal cases pending against him, will be seeking his transfer to its custody.
