The 2019 Lok Sabha elections will see all polling stations using the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs), the Election Commission said on Wednesday.

A statement from the Commission said that while the EVMs would be delivered by September 30, the VVPATs would arrive before November-end.

The Commission had ordered 16.15 lakh VVPATs in May 2017. Till date, 5.88 lakh VVPATs, or 36 per cent of the total number, have been produced.

The statement added that the “Commission has been consistently and periodically reviewing the status of production and supply of VVPATs with the Chairmen and Managing Directors of Public Sector Undertakings, as well as the Technical Experts Committee, to ensure that the design, production and supply activities of all the units of EVMs and VVPATs is streamlined and completed in a time-bound manner after incorporating the features suggested by the TEC which is carrying out a rigorous supervision of the production process and product performance.”

The statement also says that comprehensive and systematic preparatory activities for the Lok Sabha elections, including the detailed first-level checking (FLC) of EVMs and VVPATs had begun across States and UTs, and would be completed in a timely manner.
