Infosys Foundation and the Akshaya Patra Foundation have come together to set up a centralised mega kitchen in Khandi village near here.

The Infosys Foundation has pledged to cover the entire construction costs of the advanced technology kitchen and has provided a grant of ₹18.03 crore. The mega kitchen will provide mid-day meals to over one lakh school children in Telangana from the next academic year.

The ‘bhoomi puja’ organised at the kitchen site was attended by Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and the Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty.

Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa, President of the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Telangana & AP, said, “This will bring a meaningful change in the lives of school children. We are honoured to partner with Infosys Foundation in this endeavour.”

Harish Rao said the partnership is another step towards making the dream of Golden Telangana a reality. Sudha Murty said, “We are fortunate to be associated with Akshaya Patra’s mid-day meal scheme. The positive impact of the scheme motivates us to continue our work towards freeing the society from classroom hunger and promoting universal access to education.”

Akshaya Patra has grown from humble beginnings serving just 1,500 school children across five schools. Today, Akshaya Patra Foundation is the world’s largest not-for-profit mid-day meal programme catering to over 16 lakh children in 13,526 schools across 11 states.
