Infosys is planning to set up campus in West Bengal and has already made a payment Rs 50 crore for 50 acres of land it received from the government, the state’s Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim today said.
“The Infosys will come to Bengal. It has made a payment Rs 50 crore for 50 acres received from our government. Wipro, Cognizant had also asked for more land for setting up their campus,” Hakim told reporters in the Assembly.
The previous Left Front government had promised the company that it would give SEZ status to Infosys for starting the project, which had the prospect of creating 15,000 jobs, but the TMC government is against giving SEZ status to it.
On being asked if the TMC government agreed to give SEZ status to Infosys, Hakim said, “I can’t comment on this matter. It is for the IT ministry to decide on it.”
State IT ministry Bratya Basu was unavailable for comment.
