hip maker Intel has launched Ek Kadam Unnati Ki Aur here, an initiative that is aimed at creating a blueprint for State-sponsored rural India digital campaigns. The company is planning to create a platform where different partners and stakeholders would contribute their expertise or services to the programme.
As part of the initiative, the firm has set up the first Unnati centre in Mahboobnagar district of Telangana. Intel Senior Vice President Gregory R. Pearson and its South Asia Managing Director Debjani Ghosh have formally unveiled the plan here on Wednesday.
Telangana is among the 10 States with which Intel plans to partner with to roll out the initiative. The firm would help local entrepreneurs to set up Unnati centres that would go to villages and spread digital literacy.
“The effective digitization of rural India will be the key for success of Digital India. We will work with States to create a blueprint to ensure it happens the right way,” Debjani said.
The chip maker is building a platform inviting its partners and ecosystem players such HP, Snapdeal, Micromax to join it, bringing in their offerings to rural areas.
Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the State Government would see how the model could help its own plan to make about 8,700 panchayats digitally enabled.
