Goa Government will formulate a iron ore mining policy in about two months, according to its Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a meeting with `Friends of BJP’ organised by his party here on Friday, he said the lifting of ban on iron ore in the State by the Supreme Court early this week had shown the faith in the State Government.
``The ban has been lifted only in Goa but not in other States such as Karnataka. With a transparent policy we will show the fairness of our Government,’’ he said.
When asked whether the State Government plans to go on its own in taking up, he replied in the negative. It would identify right candidates and would purely don the governance role, he added.
The ban on iron mining hit the State gross domestic product up to 25 per cent, he said indicating that with the lifting of ban now, all that lost economic activity would be regenerated.
The apex court on April 21 revoked its 19-month-old ban on iron ore mining in the State with upper cap of 20 million tonnes per annum.
It also asked Goa Government to formulate a scheme within six months for utilising the funds generated by e-auction.
