The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday attached assets worth Rs 143.74 crore in the illegal assets case involving YSR Congress party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.
As per the order, the properties attached included 135 acres of land of Ramky Pharma City (India) Ltd, promoter of Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma city in Visakhapatnam, Rs 3.20 crore in mutual funds, and Rs 10 crore worth fixed deposits of Jagati Publications Private Ltd, owned by Jagan. The attachment was done in line with the provision of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED is currently probing the case on the basis of a charge-sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the alleged disproportionate assets acquired by Jagan when his father the late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The investigation agency earlier claimed that the Hyderabad-based Ramky Group had invested Rs 10 crore in Jagati Publications in return for official favours and got itself allotted 135.46 acres.
Ramky Pharma City had either sold these plots or leased the allotted land and earned Rs 133.74 crore, it claimed in the charge-sheet filed in the case.
When contacted, senior functionary of Ramky said that “the ED attachment is based on the CBI charge-sheet and this is something which we have been contending to be not true.”
