Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has sanctioned over Rs 500 crore for procuring new buses for various transport corporations.
The Chief Minister also announced introducing e-governance schemes as regards the sector.
The Chief Minister has allocated Rs 548 crore to procure 3000 new buses for state transport corporations and the Government would provide a share capital assistance of Rs 150 crore and a loan for equal sum for this purpose, an official release said here today.
Further, e-governance will be introduced in ticketing and computerised tickets will be given to passengers and over 43,000 hand-held ticket-vending machines will be procured and necessary infrastructure set up for this, covering eight transport corporations, it said.
They will be integrated through a control room in Chennai through a website, it added.
