AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa called on the Governor in the afternoon to stake claim for the formation of the government.

She went to a temple in Kotturpuram, then to MGR statue at Anna Salai, followed by Anna Statue and finally to Periyar.

Jayalalithaa will be sworn in as chief minister on Saturday at 11 am at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium. Along with her, a council of 28 ministers will be sworn in.

Earlier in the day, the Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah accepted the resignation of chief minister O Paneerselvam and invited AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa to form the government.

Two ministers in the O Pannerselvam ministry - MSM Anandan (forests) and portfolio-less Sendur Pandiyan - were dropped from the list of ministers submitted by Jayalalithaa to the Governor.

Jaya re-elected Legislature Party leader

AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa was today re-elected as the legislature party leader. This makes way for her to become chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time.

Her reflection was decided at a meeting of the party MLAs at a meeting this morning.

All the 149 MLAS of the party and dissident MLAs from Vijaykanth's party started assembling from 6 am in the party headquarters for the meeting at 7 am.

The meeting lasted for less than ten minutes, said a MLA who attended the meeting.

Paneerselvam was the first to come out of the meeting to be greeted by the number number of media persons and thousands of enthusiastic party workers waiting since 5 am to hear the news of their party leader getting reelected.

‎After the meeting Panneraselvam along with his senior cabinet colleagues left for Poes Garden to meet Jayalalithaa, and then to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. Paneerselvam then handed over his resignation to make way for his leader Jayalalithaa to take over as the chief minister.

The scene in Chennai

Party members went all out, naturally to ensure that Chennai wore this momentous change on her sleeve. Working through Wednesday night, AIADMK cadre ensured that banners, hoardings and placards, with content that was solely hagiographic, were put up in key locations in the city, primarily in routes that party leader Jayalalithaa was expected to take on Friday to pay floral tributes to the icons of the Dravidian party movement, on Anna Salai.
