More than 16,000 candidates attended the job fair organised by the Moodbidri-based Alva’s Education Foundation at Chikballapur last weekend.
Speaking to Business Line here on Monday, Mr Vivek Alva, Trustee of the foundation, said there was good demand from employers in the civil, marketing and hospitality sectors.
In the civil engineering sector, construction companies, cement companies and real estate developers wanted people, he said. The number of candidates interested in these streams was less than the jobs on offer, he said.
On the openings for MBA graduates, Mr Alva said most employers preferred MBAs with marketing specialisation. Some of the banks at the job fair also preferred MBA (Marketing) candidates over those with MBA (Finance) specialisation, he said.
Another trend was the demand for hospitality graduates. Most of the hospitality majors were hard put to attract candidates with a degree in BHM (Bachelor of Hotel Management). Mr Alva attributed this to the good demand for hospitality graduates overseas.
The foundation has been conducting job fairs in Moodbidri and Chikballapur for the last two years, with more than 500 job offers being made on-the-spot. In Chikballapur, it was more than 900 this year, he said.
