The 'Kannur district' leg of the Kerala Janaraksha Yatra led by state BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan will draw to a close today, marking the end of the fourth day in its 15-day calendar.
The police is relieved that the yatra has progressed without any untoward incident so far as it negotiated the political minefields in Kannur, known for CPI(M)-and BJP/RSS hostilities.
Thousands of party workers had joined the march yesterday, even as shops and establishments downed shutters in response to an impromptu call for hartal locally by the CPI(M).
BJP national president Amit Shah stole the show by default by skipping a keenly watched walk through Pinarayi, the hometown of Chief Minister PInarayi Vijayan and a Marxist hotbed.
On the fourth today, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Water Resources, and heads of various state units of the party, MPs and MLAs will join the yatra.
It will start at 11 am at Panoor and head to Koothuparamba, where it will end by evening. Both localities have witnessed clashes between CPI(M) and BJP cadres over the past many years.
A public meeting has been arranged in the evening at Koothuparamba, which will be addressed by Union Ministers as well as central and state-level leaders of the BJP.
