Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is on a three-day visit to China to take part in the World Economic Forum (WEF), took time off to visit few industries in China’s Dalian province.
On the first day, Siddaramaiah visited the metal working tools manufacturing facility of IMC (International Metalworking Companies). The plant is located in Dalian Development Area near Dalian.
Metal working tools unit
IMC is one of the largest companies for metal working and their products include metal working tools for the manufacturing companies. Berkshire Hathaway had acquired 80 per cent of IMC in 2006 and the rest in 2013.
IMC has 140 subsidiaries in 65 countries. Some of them are TaeguTec, Iscar, Tungaloy, Ingersoll, CMTS, MasteRound and MicroTools.
Taegu Tec Ltd of Bangalore is a subsidiary of IMC and the Chief Minister has invited them to take up expansion in Karnataka, particularly in Bangalore, which is emerging as a machine tool hub.
Wind energy
Siddaramaiah later visited Sinovel Wind Group Company at Ganjing Zi district. The company manufactures gear boxes wind turbines of capacity ranging from1 MW to 6 MW.
Karnataka has a wind energy potential of about 11,000 MW and discussions were held to exploit this clean source of energy.
Dalian Port capacity
The Chief Minister later visited Dalian Port. The Karnataka delegation visited the port promoted by China Grains and Logistic Corporation Beiliang Company Ltd.
The port is the biggest grain handler and has a capacity of 1.7 million tonnes and an exclusive port for grains. It has excellent train connectivity and storage facility. It has been constructed with the assistance of the World Bank Funds to the tune of $1 billion.
The delegation visited the control room and a presentation was made by the port management.
