Karnataka ties up with OnMobile for citizen services project

The Centre for e-Governance, Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with OnMobile Global Ltd, a provider of telecom value-added services, has launched mobile-based government services for Karnataka’s citizens.

As a part of this deal, OnMobile will provide a platform and services to help launch and manage the pilot phase of the project on m-Governance. Earlier this week, Tata Teleservices and MMP Mobi Wallet Systems announced a pilot initiative to enable citizen services on the mobile phone by means of an integrated mobile-enabled service delivery system.

With this unique m-Governance offering, OnMobile hopes to help the Government create an ecosystem that will assist departments offer their services to citizens on the mobile and also encourage innovation in the mobile utility services space.

OnMobile has provided the underlying technology platform for designing, developing and managing different governance services over mobile, across channels such as Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and mobile browsers or WAP.

Some services introduced in the pilot phase include information services like Sakala services; utility services like electricity, water, and BSNL landline and mobile bill payments; traffic services like bus routes and timing information, and traffic alerts service and pending traffic fine payments. The platform offers payment of utility bills through multiple channels including credit card, bank accounts using IMPS etc.
