After tasting success in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government now has decided to roll out its pet subsidised food scheme — Indira Canteens — throughout the state.
The government has set aside ₹185 crore to build 246 Indira Canteens in all taluk and district headquarters by November 17.
The expense for running canteens is around ₹29 lakh daily and for a month, it is expected to be around ₹9 crore, said TB Jayachandra, Karnataka Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.
The Indira Canteens which are to be operational from January 1, 2018 are to be set up in all taluk and district headquarters.
Also the locations to establish them are nearby bus-stations, hospitals, railway stations and thickly populated areas where population is not less than one lakh.
Jayachandra said the aim of opening these canteens is to make the State free from hunger, which was envisaged under the Anna Bhagya scheme.
Special legislative sessionThe winter session of the State Legislature is expected to be held for 10 days at Suvarna Soudha, a State Secretariat building in Belagavi, from November 13 to 24.
President Ramnath Kovind will address a special session of the state legislature in Bengaluru on October 25 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Vidhana Soudha.
The special joint session is to discuss topics such as the formation of the Mysuru
As part of the 60th year celebration, families of the first three chief ministers of the state — KC Reddy, Kengal Hanumanthaiah and Kadidal Manjappa — are to be honoured.
Two documentaries on the construction of the Vidhana Soudha and emergence of legislature in Karnataka directed by renowned filmakers Girish Kasaravalli and TN Seetharam are to be screened.
