Questioning the hesitation of the BJP to declare the candidate in Indore, the present MP from the constituency and Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she will not contest the upcoming polls. In a statement, she said the BJP can decide the next candidate without hesitation as she has announced her decision.

“The BJP hasn’t declared the candidate for Indore till this date. Why there is an indecisive situation? It seems that the party is hesitating about something. I had consulted party leaders earlier on this and left the decision to them. But still there is some confusion. So, I would like to state that I do not want to contest the next Lok Sabha elections so that the party can decide without any hesitation or confusion,” the 75-year-old BJP leader said.

She has represented Indore since 1989 and was a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government. She thanked the people and BJP workers in Indore for the support given to her. Mahajan becomes the third senior leader of the BJP who will not be contesting this election. The party has denied tickets to nonagenarian LK Advani and octogenarian Murli Manohar Joshi.
