As part of its mission to rebuild Kerala, Muthoot M George Foundation of the Muthoot group has handed over the first disaster-resilient home to the flood-affected family of Rajeswary and Subramanian in Annamanada in Thrissur district.

Built in just 55 daysby Habitat for Humanity India, this home is built three feet above the ground to avoid ingress of water. It has six additional base pillars that can withstand an earthquake.

In the August floods, the Chalakkudy river changed course and entered the house of Subramanian damaging the old structure badly.

“Building disaster resilient homes goes a long way not only to rehabilitate disaster-affected people but also to prevent future devastation,” said George Alexander, Managing Director of the Muthoot group.

“Disaster resilient home ensures sustainable rehabilitation for the flood-affected families,” said Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India.
