e-marketing and tapping designer services to make products more appealing should be the way forward to ensure that demand for Khadi products grows, says a top executive of the Khadi & Village Industries Commission.
Arun Kumar Jha, the chief executive officer said top design institutes like the National Institute of Design, National Institute of Fashion Technology should be approached by the Khadi institutions for their expertise in expanding the range of designs and making them contemporary.
He also requested the representatives of Khadi institutions to make efforts to increase the production to ensure improvement in the earnings of the artisans. He was interacting with representatives of the Khadi Institutions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States.
Referring to the issue pertaining to continuous supply of raw material, Jha suggested to the institutions that they should come forward to establish their own Raw Material Banks / carding units by availing support from the relevant schemes.
He assured the participants that their payments in respect of supplies shall be resolved immediately keeping in view of the Ramzan festival to reach the benefit to the Khadi artisans more particularly in Rayalaseema districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The demonstration of Cycle Charkha model designed by Sadhana, Hyderabad under the leadership of Janardhana Reddy, ex-legislator and President of an NGO, was seen by the CEO at the meeting.
