The Andhra Pradesh Government has started the process of enumeration of kharif crop losses and wanted to complete it as early as possible.

“We will give Rs 10,000 as input subsidy for every hectare of crop damaged in cyclones. We will take a call on disbursement after completing the enumeration,” Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana told Business Line.

Back to back cyclones caused crop losses in 11 lakh hectares or one-seventh of the total kharif crop area. Paddy and cotton crops were the worst hit.

The State had given a list of input subsidies for farmers who have lost crops in natural calamities. Paddy gets Rs 10,000 a hectare.

With rabi sowings getting delayed with successive cyclones hitting the State, the State government is readying a Plan-B. “We have asked the district-level officials to position alternative seeds and make them available to the farmers whenever required,” the Minister said.
