Terming the ‘encounter’ in the Seshachalam forest in Andhra Pradesh by the AP Police on April 7 as “fake”, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) had demanded a judicial enquiry into the incident.
In a statement, CITU general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tapan Sen said the killings of 20 labourers was ‘barbaric”, as they were hired for cutting wood and were killed in cold blood by the AP Police “to camouflage and cover-up their failure to contain the increasing menace of smuggling of red sanders.”
The trade union also called upon the Andhra Pradesh government to pay adequate compensation to the families of the victims.
