Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a software solution to geo-tag all Post Offices in the country.

Addressing the 28th edition of ‘Vichaarmanthan,’ an interactive series with global and Indian visionaries, organised by Kristu Jayanti College, ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar said, “Geo-tag is a civilian application developed by us that aims to improve the speed and coverage of all post offices.”

Village planning system

Kiran Kumar also spoke about Space Information System for Village Planning being developed by ISRO to help villages plan and coordinate their activities. Two demonstrations have already been conducted in Rajasthan.

Advising students to innovate and make things happen, Kiran Kumar said, “ISRO has built a series of innovative approaches by adopting the existing technology and making use of it, as well as indigenously creating and developing the technology.”

Use of space technology for societal benefits such as broadcasting, telecommunication and weather monitoring is being developed at ISRO.

“The government is making use of these technologies in navigation, communication, disaster management and early warning activities,” he said.

Challenges

Kiran Kumar spoke on the need for finding alternative energy resources, scarcity of water and climate change and how to find solutions to them.
