Service tax collection in the Kolkata zone in financial year 2013 exceeded the target.
Kameswari Subramaniam, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax (Kolkata zone), on Friday said that the total collection of service tax from the zone was Rs 5,500 crore in 2012-13.
At an event organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the zonal Chief Commissioner said the collection figure was over the collection target set by the Revenue Department at the beginning of the last fiscal. She, however, did not mention the revenue FY‘13 target figure through service tax.
She said a Settlement Commission has been established recently at Salt Lake in city. Service taxpayers can approach the Commission for resolving service tax related issues. The Union Ministry of Finance had been running an additional Settlement Commission Bench in the city to handle issues related to income and wealth tax so far.
