Kongu Global Forum (KGF) plans to take up with the government the need for initiating steps to improve the industrial development of the region and for promoting marketing committees to help farmers realise better returns for their produce.

Taking credit for the introduction of Air India Express flights on the New Delhi-Coimbatore-Singapore sector from November 18, KGF Chairman A Sakthivel, said the service was made possible thanks to their sustained efforts.

“We have impressed upon the need for a direct morning flight from Coimbatore to New Delhi and a flight in the reverse direction in the afternoon, a one-stop flight to Pune via Chennai and Vijayawada and increasing the frequency of the existing Hyderabad flight from Coimbatore to a daily service,” he said.

“Though Coimbatore is well connected by air to a few cities in India, the frequency of services are not in proportion to the movement of passengers and traffic. The forum will address the critical needs of the business community and public at large for the development and prosperity of the Kongu region,” said KGF Convenor Vanitha Mohan.

“Our next major initiative would be for joining hands with Siruthuli for effective water management by de-silting water bodies, rain water harvesting, creating new water bodies and maintaining the existing ones in Coimbatore. We also intend to join hands with Vanathukkul Tirupur for enhancing the green cover of the Kongu region,” Mohan said.
