KT Rama Rao, appointed working president of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, has predicted a new federal front is set to play a crucial role in the formation of the next Government at the Centre in 2019 .
Interacting with the media at the Press Club here today, Rama Rao, after the recent thumping victory in Telangana with three-fourths majority, said both the BJP-led NDA and Congress-led coalition will end up with a huge gap in seats. And that the Federal Front proposed by K Chandrasekhar Rao, the TRS Chief, will become crucial in forming the new Government.
Rao also felt that the Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, will be routed in the upcoming elections to the State Assembly, in 2019.
Mentioning that he has been entrusted with the task of serving as the working president of the party, he said he has his work cut out in the run up to the general elections.
Providing insights into the recent elections where TRS routed the Praja Kutami headed by Congress, he said, “We won the elections in spite of the entire opposition coming together and fighting us in the first-ever elections after the new State was carved out.”
“The fact that we withstood the might of campaigning by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, six Chief Ministers and more than 11 Union Ministers, demonstrates how the good work done by the TRS Government over the past four and half years, and welfare measures taken up, have stood by us in ensuring the TRS victory,” he explained.
Mentioning about the Rythu Bandhu scheme, KCR has been firm that such a scheme was the way to go as only direct benefit transfer to the farmers was crucial, he said.
“Of the 2 crore votes polled (about 73 per cent of the electorate in Telangana) during the State elections, TRS garnered 47 per cent share followed by Congress with about 28-29 per cent. . The numbers only show how they rejected the opposition by a huge margin and also junked the hype created by the opposition parties. And more than 100 BJP candidates lost their deposit in the State.
“My job now is to strengthen the party, galvanise the cadres for upcoming challenges, including elections to the panchayats, Parliament, Municipal, Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parasihads. All of them coming up in the next 6-7 months,” he added.
