Laurus Labs, a pharma company based in Hyderabad and having a manufacturing facility in the Jawahar Pharma City in Visakhapatnam district, is sponsoring a five-year integrated M.Sc chemistry course in GITAM University from the current academic year.
The programme will have an intake of 50 students selected through an entrance test. The annual fee of ₹50,000 will be paid by Laurus Labs and the students will be given a stipend of ₹5,000 per month for 10 months in a year to take care of their boarding and incidental expenses.
“There is no financial burden on either the student or the parent; further there is a job guarantee,” Laurus Labs Chief Executive Officer C Satyanarayana said after signing a memorandum of understanding with the University on Thursday.
He said there was a dearth of candidates in basic sciences with most students and their parents looking at engineering alone as a career option.
GITAM University President MVVS Murthy said more companies should come forward for such collaborations.
The tie upwould be for five batches, GITAM Vice Chancellor G Subrahmanyam said.
