A slight intensity earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook Assam and other North-East states at around midnight last night, the Regional Meteorological Centre said here.
No casualty or damage to property had been reported so far.
The tremor occurred around 11.57 pm with its epicentre at a latitude of 25.7 degree north and a longitude of 91.1 degree east at a depth of 10 km in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district, according to the Met office.
As per reports received here today, the quake jolted Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier this week, a quake measuring 3.1 with epicentre in Morigaon district of Assam, a major earthquake-prone belt in the world, was recorded.
