Madhya Pradesh was a clean sweep for the BJP, except the two seats of Congress Ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia. The margin of winning candidates reveals that the party remains unchallenged in the State. While the largest margin of a BJP candidate, senior leader Sumitra Mahajan, was 4.66 lakh votes, the smallest was 8,688, of Ganesh Singh in Satna. Sushma Swaraj’s winning margin was also more than 4 lakh votes. The popularity of Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan might have helped the BJP to consolidate its base and get the best result in its history from the State. The party got 54 per cent of the total vote share, much higher than the predictions.
The MP results will hardly surprise the BJP, considering the RSS has a base in the State. The complete party machinery was back in the field soon after the last Assembly elections.
