West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attributed the death of Sarabjit Singh to “bad handling” of the Indian prisoner’s case by the Government.
Expressing shock at the news of Sarabjit’s death, Banerjee, in a Facebook post said: “I am extremely shocked to learn that Sarabjit Singh is no more. This is a result of bad handling of the case.”
Sarabjit was on death row in Pakistan after being convicted for terrorist strikes in that country’s Punjab province.
On April 26, he was attacked by fellow prisoners and admitted to a Lahore hospital.
He died Thursday. ”I have no words to express my anguish. I can only say sorry for the state of affairs that perpetrated this situation,” Banerjee added. “I stand by them (Sarabjit’s family) at this hour of grief,” she said.
