BJP Presidentattacks Bengal CM over Saradha scam, poor law and order

Amit Shah, BJP President

West Bengal cannot expect investments unless there is an “environment for development” in the state, BJP President Amit Shah said here on Wednesday.

Criticising the Mamata Banerjee-led State government for the Saradha scam and for the deteriorating law and order scenario, Shah lamented the State government’s failure to create a conducive scenario for investment.

The lack of trust among the general public, traders and industrialists will also make it difficult to push development.

“If more than investments, money (of the common man) is [being] cheated through Saradha scam, then there can’t be development. If there are (bomb) blasts every day, it creates an atmosphere of fear and suspicion. Then how can one have development there,” Shah said at an event organised by the Indian Chamber Of Commerce. Describing the logjam in Parliament as “unfortunate”, BJP President Amit Shah on Wednesday said the Congress should support the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill.

The Bill, he said had been stalled for political reasons.

“Whatever is happening in Parliament is unfortunate, we appeal to Congress to support the GST Bill,” he said.According to the BJP President, Shah said the GST Bill was proposed by the Congress during the UPA ruleits tenure in the UPA, with BJP supporting the same. So it is only logical that the Congress now lends its support as a “responsible Opposition”.

“So if the Congress, as a responsible Opposition, understands its responsibilities and therefore supports the bill in the Rajya Sabha, then it will increase the growth rate. We can’t do anything more than make an appeal (to support the bill),” Shah said.

The BJP chief, however, claimed that the stalling of the Bill notwithstanding, India’s growth would be on course to achieving 10 per cent GDP growth by 2017.
